Getting started

Can you help with Healthy Homes for my rental?

Yes. We can install the ceiling and underfloor insulation your rental needs, and arrange a Healthy Homes assessment for you. Give us a call to talk it through.

How do I contact Coastline Insulation?

You can contact us directly on 027 482 0333, email admin@coastlineinsulationnz.com or send the quote form. We aim to call you back within 48 hours.

Is investing in insulation worthwhile?

Absolutely. In New Zealand’s climate, quality insulation keeps your home warm and cosy through winter. It also helps prevent mould and moisture. Plus, insulation can increase your property’s value. Investing in quality insulation like Knauf and Mammoth is a smart choice for comfort, savings and peace of mind.

How do I know if my home needs more insulation?

If rooms are difficult to keep warm, floors feel cold, or your power bills seem high, it is worth checking your insulation. Older insulation may have settled, been damaged, or left gaps.

Will insulation help in summer as well as winter?

Yes. Insulation slows heat moving through your home, helping it stay warmer in winter and cooler on hot days.

Will insulation solve condensation or damp problems?

Insulation can help keep indoor surfaces warmer, but it will not repair leaks or replace good ventilation. Any moisture problems should be identified so they can be addressed properly.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Coastline Insulation is fully licensed and insured, so you can be confident you are working with a reputable, trustworthy company.

Installation

What insulation services do you provide?

We retrofit ceiling insulation with Knauf batts and underfloor insulation with Mammoth, install underfloor moisture barriers, and remove old insulation fluff (Insulfluff). For new builds, we install ceiling, wall and underfloor insulation at framing stage. We work on homes, businesses and schools.

How long does installation take?

Most ceiling installs take 1 to 3 hours. Underfloor insulation is typically a one-day job for a 100m² home. We agree a start date and timeline with you before any work begins.

Should I insulate the ceiling or underfloor first?

The best starting point depends on the gaps in your home. Ceiling insulation is often a priority for warmth, while underfloor insulation can make a noticeable difference in older homes with raised timber floors.

Should I replace old insulation or add to it?

Insulation that is dry, secure and in good condition may be suitable to keep or top up. Wet, damaged or poorly installed insulation may need to be removed. An inspection will show which option makes sense.

Do I need to leave the house during installation?

Usually not. We will let you know before work starts if access or safety requirements affect any part of your home.

Do you work on businesses and schools as well as homes?

Yes. We insulate homes, businesses and schools, from new builds at framing stage to older buildings that need an upgrade.

Do you insulate existing walls?

We install wall insulation in new builds, at framing stage before the linings go on. For existing homes, we retrofit ceiling and underfloor insulation.

Prices and quotes

How much does insulation cost?

As a guide, ceiling insulation with Knauf batts is $1,600 to $2,000 for a 100m² home, and underfloor insulation with Mammoth is $2,200 to $2,500 for a 100m² home. Your quote depends on access and materials, so we price every job individually.

Are your quotes free?

Yes. Every consultation and quote is free and no-obligation. You get a clear, detailed quote with no hidden fees, so you know exactly what is being installed and what it costs.

Do you need to visit my home to quote?

Not always. Most assessments are done through our online system. For more complicated homes, or if you would rather, one of the team will come out to you.

Areas we cover

Which regions do you provide insulation services to?

We work mainly along the coast: the Bay of Plenty (Katikati, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Whakatāne and Ōhope), the Coromandel and Hauraki (Whangamatā, Whitianga, Coromandel Town, Tairua, Thames, Paeroa and the Hauraki Plains), and Gisborne and the East Coast (Gisborne, Māhia, Tolaga Bay and surrounding areas). We also cover Rotorua and surrounding towns, and travel as far south as Taupō.

Do you travel outside these areas?

We are mainly coastal, but we travel inland to Rotorua and as far south as Taupō. If you are not sure whether we cover your address, give us a call and we will let you know.

Ceiling insulation

Service page

How much does ceiling insulation cost?

As a guide, ceiling insulation is $1,600 to $2,000 for a 100m² home. Your quote depends on access and materials, so we quote each job and there are no hidden fees.

Which ceiling insulation do you use?

We fit Knauf batts. We use them across homes, businesses and schools.

What if my ceiling has old Insulfluff in it?

Old loose-fill insulation can be removed before the new insulation goes in. We check what is in your ceiling space at the assessment and tell you whether it can stay or should come out.

Do you insulate school and commercial ceilings?

Yes. We work on homes, businesses and schools, including laying insulation over a ceiling grid in a school classroom with the ceiling tiles going back in below it.

Underfloor insulation

Service page

How much does underfloor insulation cost?

As a guide, underfloor insulation is $2,200 to $2,500 for a 100m² home. Your quote depends on access and materials, such as how easy it is to get under the floor.

Will underfloor insulation work with my floor type?

It is for homes with a raised timber floor and space underneath. If your home sits on a concrete slab, there is no underfloor space to insulate, so ceiling insulation is the place to look.

Do I need a ground moisture barrier as well?

Often it makes sense to do both together. We look at the subfloor at the assessment and tell you whether a barrier is worth fitting with your insulation.

Do you install underfloor insulation in Gisborne and the Coromandel?

Yes. We started in Gisborne and still do plenty of work there, and we also install across the Bay of Plenty, the Coromandel and Hauraki, and Rotorua.

New build insulation

Service page

When is insulation installed in a new build?

At framing stage, once the framing is up and before the linings go on. That is when the walls are open and the insulation can be fitted properly.

Do you work with builders and developers?

Yes. We work with homeowners, builders and developers, as well as schools and businesses putting up new buildings.

What do you need to give me a quote?

Your plans and the details of the build. Tell us about the project through the quote form or give us a call, and we quote each job.

Do you only work on new builds?

No. We also retrofit ceiling and underfloor insulation in existing homes, and we can remove old Insulfluff and fit ground moisture barriers.

Retrofit insulation

Service page

What does retrofit insulation cost?

As a guide, ceiling insulation is $1,600 to $2,000 and underfloor insulation is $2,200 to $2,500, each for a 100m² home. Your quote depends on access and materials, and covers any removal or moisture barrier work.

Can I have the ceiling and underfloor done together?

Yes. We can quote the ceiling, the underfloor, or both together, and agree a start date and timeline that suit you.

Will you remove my old insulation?

Only if it needs to go. If it is wet, damaged or poorly installed, it may need removing. Old Insulfluff is taken out before the new insulation goes in.

Can you help get my rental ready for Healthy Homes?

We can help with the insulation your rental needs and arrange a Healthy Homes assessment for you. Call us to talk it through.

Do you retrofit homes in Gisborne and the East Coast?

Yes. Gisborne is where we started and we still do plenty of work there, as well as in the Bay of Plenty, the Coromandel and Hauraki, and Rotorua.

Moisture barriers

Service page

What is a ground moisture barrier?

It is a polythene sheet laid over the soil under a raised floor. It helps reduce damp rising from the ground into the space below your home.

Do I need a moisture barrier if I am having underfloor insulation?

Often it makes sense to do both together. We look at the subfloor at the assessment and tell you whether a barrier is worth adding.

Will a moisture barrier fix a damp subfloor?

It helps reduce moisture rising from the soil, but it will not fix leaks, drainage or ventilation problems. If there is a bigger moisture issue, it should be identified so it can be addressed properly.

How much does a moisture barrier cost?

We quote each job, because it depends on the size of the subfloor and how easy it is to access. You get a clear, detailed quote with no hidden fees.

Insulfluff removal

Service page

What is Insulfluff?

It is old loose-fill insulation, also called insulation fluff, that was put into ceiling spaces in older homes.

Can new insulation go over the old Insulfluff?

It depends on its condition. Insulation that is dry, secure and in good shape may be kept or topped up. If it has settled, got wet or been damaged, it may need to come out first. An inspection shows which.

Why take old loose-fill insulation out?

Older loose fill can be dusty and can break down or settle over time. Removing it lets the new insulation go into a cleared space.

How much does Insulfluff removal cost?

We quote each job, because it depends on the size of the ceiling space and how easy it is to access. You get a clear, detailed quote with no hidden fees.

Can I remove it myself?

Older loose fill can be dusty, so it is a job we are happy to take on rather than have you do it. We can remove it and fit the new insulation in the same job.
